Ode to Haflinger Noses
Okay everyone, I admit it, I'm a nose fan.
There are so many wonderful
things about a Haflinger's appearance to love: the long wavy
mane, and
bushy full tail, the feathers on the fetlocks, the blackrimmed
eyes, the
long long eyelashes, the copper penny coloring, the perfect
parallel
little ears, the forelock that almost reaches clear down the
face....
But REALLY, REALLY, the only reason to have a Haflinger is
because of
its nose.
I love the pink noses, I love the gray noses, I love the
nondescript not
sure what color it will is noses. I love the noses that have
little
white diamonds on them.
They all are warm, smell just like the smell I remember as a
little
girl, are softer than the most velvety velvet, and it is
inevitably the
first thing you meet when you meet a new Haflinger. It reaches
out,
blows, sniffs, caresses, sometimes pushes, sometimes showers you
with
snot. When I go down the row of our barn, I see a bunch of noses
poking
out of the open areas where we dump the grain in each corner bin,
all
noses waiting sometimes not so patiently, but it is irresistible
to
touch every single one.
That's my clincher about Haflingers.
